A New Genealogy Mystery

My genimate, Lorine MCGinnis Schulze from Canada, proudly announced this week on Facebook the publication of her first genealogy mystery. As I follow Lorine's blog I knew that this book was in the pipeline.

Lorine has subsequently shared the news on her Olive Tree Genealogy blog.

As I love this genre I wanted to purchase the title in ebook format but sadly it was only available in hard copy from Amazon.com and I was loathe to purchase that format due to postage costs to Australia. I asked Lorine if it was available as an ebook and she said that it would be coming soon. It was only a day or so when Lorine let me know that the book was now available in ebook format on Amazon and Amazon Canada. When I couldn't purchase it from Amazon.com I tried the Amazon Australia site and the ebook was available there.

The book is now installed on my phone but I must finish what I am currently reading before I dive into Lorine's book - something to look forward to.

When Joan Miller had to retire from our panel presentation at Rootstech another Canadian genealogist,  Lorine, graciously agreed to take Joan's place.

I had met Lorine at Rootstech last year but in the hecticity of the event I didn't have a chance to have a good chat with her. I have been following her blog for some time as well as following her on social media including our newest dalliance, Pinterest. Just a week ago I asked Lorine if she would submit a profile to the GeniMates blog. Once again Lorine agreed to help me and filled out the submission promptly.

Rootstech News - International Panel: Genealogy 2.0

My friend, Joan Miller of the Luxegen Blog, has indicated that she is taking a healing hiatus from genealogy to concentrate on recovering from an illness. I am saddened to hear of her illness and wish her well as she travels the road to recovery.

Since meeting Joan at Rootstech last year I have kept in constant contact with her via email and social media and was looking forward to co-presenting with her at Rootstech 2012. Unfortunately Joan, who coined the term Genealogy 2.0 for our presentation, will not be able to join Amy Coffin, Audrey Collins and me for the presentation. I thank you,  Joan, for all of your assistance with preparation for the gig, we are most indebted to you.

It was an easy task for us to decide on another foreigner to invite to take Joan's place on our panel. We four agreed that another Canadian and an Official Rootstech Blogger, Lorine McGinnis-Schulze, would be the perfect candidate.

We were thrilled and relieved when Lorine graciously accepted our invitation. We welcome Lorine to our panel and look forward to getting together at the Salt Palace for our presentation in Room 225B at 11:00 am on Friday February 3rd.

Following on the advice of Lorine McGinnis-Schulze I have been using my Flip-Pal to scan old photos while sitting on the couch watching television or babysitting.

I have just scanned several hundred of my Dad's many of which are labelled. There are some images of people I have never heard of - army mates, people from his home town, Canowindra, and some colleagues from the NSW Police Force. There are labelled images of places where he served in the war plus some great historical images of the Canowindra area. Similarly Mum has photos of people from her youth plus a few images of the Cobar area.  These images would be a valuable resource for those researching these people and places.

So, from time to time, on this blog I will post one of these photos and maybe someone with an interest might contact me. These posts probably won't be too relevant to my readers in the Northern Hemisphere but with luck they might just reach a relative over the seas.
