This week a genimate changed the name of her blog. I applauded her decision because she changed it from a general title to a title that could refer to any genealogy blog to something that is unique to her.
As that set me thinking. I thought about
name changes that may put barriers in the way of our research so as it is
Trove Tuesday I went to
Trove in search of some examples. Reading these articles gives us an indication of why the name changes were effected.
Did these name changers realise the impact that their actions would have on family historians of the future?

Tell me about it! Some have lead me a right merry dance. Thankfully, many newspapers and gazettes of the day recorded the name change and with the likes of Trove and other online resources we are now able to fight through the maze. One of mine changed his name when he was 12 to receive a legacy. I'm thinking his father was quick to get that done.
Good tip! And then there are all the ones affected by the world wars. I’m quite proud of my German ancestor for not changing his name but I could wish my elusive James Sherry hadn’t changed his to match the big railway contractor.
These challenges keep us on our toes!
