First Semester Report 2012

When I was a Schoolie I dreaded writing the reports that we were required to write each semester detailing the progress of our students. Writing a report for the  Geniaus Blog is a task I enjoy as it causes me to reflect on and evaluate what I have been doing.

I took a look at Google Analytics to see which posts had been most popular on the Geniaus Blog in the first six months of this year.

The Top Ten for Jan 1 - June 30 2012 were:

Keynotes (a favourite of mine)

At the other end of the scale are the unloved posts; those that didn't attract too much interest:

National Year of Reading (How could genies ignore this?)
14th February - Library Lovers' Day (An oldie so it deserves it place near the bottom)
Free Access to SMH Archive from Google (Now old and irrelevant)
Alone in the Wilderness (Perhaps because it is a new post)
Cemetery Headstone Photos for Cowra (Another oldie that still gets a few hits)
The Reader Geneameme (A huge disappointment that deserves more attention IMHO)

The top ten countries for visitors were:

Australia, The United States, The United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, France, India, Phillipines, Brazil, Netherlands.

I had visitors from 95 countries with 30 of these accounting for only one visit each.

What does your Blog's Report Card tell you?

  1. Yes, Jill - we're half way through the year as of today, and it is time to reflect on our goals and progress.

Just where did the last six months go? I know that I am well behind on my assignments :)

Glad you got your submissions into Rootstech 2013 on time too.

Also regarding this post, I often read posts through Google Reader, and don't always click through to the blog, so your readership may well be much greater than the stats reveal

  2. I must take a look as the past semester is my first as a geneablogger. Last time I checked my fave was also that of my readers. I was pretty pleased with that result.

  3. Thanks for this synopsis Jill. I read it when you first posted but didn't have a chance to comment. Like you I sometimes am surprised which posts "take off" and which ones languish.
Wordpress doesn't use Google Analytics so I can't get the same consolidated detail. Not sure if I want to install it for fearing of messing with the Wordpress system.

  4. Just re-explored this option. Turns out I can't use Google Analytics on a Wordpress.com blog. I'd have to change to a self-hosted one so will settle for what I have at present.

  5. Pauleen, Each platform has unique strengths and weaknesses. I have been considering a move to Wordpress but am sicking with the Google stable for the time being.

I'd love to hear what you have to say so I encourage you to say G'day in comments on my posts.

Sorry I have turned word verification on but I am just getting too much spam to allow comments without this feature.
