The new Dragon at my house

Those who follow my blogs will know that my typing skills are somewhat lacking. I am in possession of a new tool that may help in this regard.

I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking premium version to write this post. I only installed the the software last night and have written one report with it. This is my second attempt at writing with this product and so far it has transcribed with 100% accuracy.

As I have many stories that I wish to relate and record for future generations I am looking forward to using this new tool.

Have you used voice recognition software for genealogy purposes?

I haven't but perhaps because I am time poor it might be a valuable investment.

Just noticed "The the" a double up - probably not the software's fault - I'm prone to repeating myself.

I have used it in the past. Previously have had issues with noisy backgrounds so interested in how you get on.

Good idea as it will make it so much easier to get things done. I've had two bosses who've used it -one with a thick Scottish burr and the other with a hybrid Scottish-Canadian-French-Australian accent....sometimes it got confused with his words ;-)

Will be interested in how it goes. Pauleen

I used it 2 years ago when I lost the use of my right arm do to a herniated disc flare-up. I don't know if it was me or the software, but it made so many mistakes that it drove me nuts. I think I may have healed out of sheer frustration over DNS! Hopefully the newer version will give you much less frustration.

This would be great for my husband, who finds it hard to type with his disability, but is still interested in writing, family stuff, notes for his history files etc. The problem is that he presses the same key many times, hits CAPS LOCK all the time; but then again he does tend to ramble on... getting off the point very easily!

I used to use it sometimes for data entry, if it was mostly just names and dates I was entering. I found it easier to keep my place in a source document if I kept one hand on the document, and clicked from field to field with the other. It didn't take much to train the software with family names as I went along. It worked better than you might expect, especially since this was around 7 or 8 years ago! I haven't tried it lately as my source documents are more often digital these days.

I haven't used it but as others have said I'm very interested to hear how you go with it.
