Trove Tuesday - Leaving Certificate Success

My Dad's family were poor farming folk in Canowindra, NSW. Dad left school when he was 14 to help his father on the family farm. I think that Dad was pleased when he was able to enlist for World War 11 as then he had an easier life with better pay than he had on the farm.

My Dad always valued education and was determined that I would complete my secondary education and go on to tertiary study. He was very proud when I got a couple of degrees under my belt.

Dad was very proud of his younger brother, Tom, who was able to stay on at school and complete his secondary education. We believe that Tom was the first student at St Edward's School in Canowindra to gain his Leaving Certificate. I was talking with Tom's daughter about his education last week and was prompted to see if I could find out if his results had been published.

An Aladdin's Cave

...for Genies that is.

Top of my list while holidaying in Adelaide was a trip to Gould Genealogy's retail outlet in suburban Adelaide. This morning after dropping the family at Adelaide Zoo to say g'day to the pandas we set off along the North Eastern Road to Ridgehaven where we found Gould's shop.

Many of us have bought goods online from Gould but few have probably had the opportunity to visit their store. As online sales form the greater part of Gould's business they have only a small retail outlet but altough it is small it still has many goodies to tempt the genealogist. I was quite restrained and only purchased three books (there would probably have been more but Mr Geniaus was looking over my shoulder.

It was easy to find he shop from Adelaide's CBD

There was a warm welcome from Gould's riendly Alona from the Lonetester blog

I found a couple of treasures on this shelf

and resisted the bargains in the clearance corner

Lachlan who will be on the 4th UTP Cruise was busy in the backroom

I'm not into scrapbooking but if you are there's lots there for you

They even stock Geneafashion

And tech toys I don't own

Alona had some good advice

You will have no trouble putting a hole in your wallet if you visit Gould's store.

Positive Reinforcement

When one receives a positive comment on a social media site it makes one feel good.

I have dived headlong into the world of Google Hangouts on Air and sometimes wonder if it was a wise move. This comment from Hazel on Youtube this morning  has given me the encouragement to persevere.

Hazel Meldrum "Keep doing these genealogy hang outs I listen to as many as possible on you tube there is not one that does not make me think I am not looking for perfection but inspiration."

My message here is that if you enjoy or agree with something you read or viewed online please let the author know.

Watch out - the Boat will be rocking

Because The Voyager of the Seas has stabilisers we should have a fairly smooth ride on the 4th Unlock the Past Genealogy Cruise  in February.

We will still be rocking along because The Top Six Rockstar Genealogists from Australia and New Zealand will be on board.  Last Year Canadian blogger, John D Reid, conducted a poll to identify Rockstar Genealogists from several countries. Based on votes cast by those who self-identified as living in Australia or New Zealand the top six were:
